BREAK IN PROCEDURE

Drive normally but not at continuous high speeds for the first 500 miles. - Surface streets are the best which allows for occasional quick bursts of speed followed by quick deceleration when stopping for lights and stop signs.

This procedure and time period is imperative for breaking in the rings.

Note:  Applying this type of moderate loads to the engine for short periods of time causes increased ring pressure against cylinder walls and helps to  seat the rings.  This is especially important because you are "BREAKING IN" the engine with heavy duty oils.  The rapid deceleration increases vacuum and gives extra lubrication to the piston and other assemblies.

If you can not avoid driving on the highway do not exceed 60 mph, do not use cruise control, and mimic the action of quick bursts of acceleration and deceleration. If you are on an open road and encounter a hill, get in the right hand lane and let the semi’s pass you.

AVOID LUGGING!!! Trips and towing are not recommended for 1000 miles. Reason being you want to make sure the rings are good and seated and its easier and much cheaper for you to get the vehicle to us.

For the first 500 miles you are to check the water and oil every day.  Walk around the vehicle and check for drips on the ground.  Top off as necessary. We use a 10w40 Valvoline and we need the heavier oil in it to get down in there and coat the new components of the engine to aid in ring seating. It is not unusual to use 1/8 to 1/4 of a quart of oil over the 500 miles break in period.  If it uses more than that or all of at once there could be a leak that you can not see.

IMPERATIVE!

After 500 miles of service - CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER.

Use a good quality brand conventional oil and oil filter, whatever the manufacturer suggests. We are not fans of synthetic oil but if you are DO NOT USE until the SECOND 3000 miles oil change. We require a MAXIMUM OF 3000 miles between oil changes and you must be able to provide receipts upon our request.

ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT TIP;  Make sure the person changing your oil knows what he is doing.  People have been known to leave out drain plugs or put oil filters on wrong or loose.  Lose your oil and it only takes a few seconds to ruin an engine. Note:  Add oil at 1/2 quart intervals on small capacity engines.  OIL AND WATER LEVELS ARE A DRIVER OR OWNERS MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITY, THEY MUST BE KEPT FULL  We realize that this means extra effort on your part but it assures long and satisfactory engine performance.

It is not unusual for check engine lights to pop on after the installation of a new engine. It takes a certain number of turn keys to make some of them throw a code if it is going to do so.  If this happens, please take it to a auto parts store near you like Auto Zone or NAPA or if you have a scanner you can scan it yourself, and have them give you a print out from their scan. Don’t let them sell you anything!   Call us with the code.  Or, if you are near our shop feel free to stop by for us to check it.

You may need to drop it off at a later date for adjustments.

Please allow for a reasonable amount of time for repairs.

Keep your engine in tune.  Tune up specifications should always be to the manufacturer's recommended specifications.

PLEASE!  If you experience any trouble or even suspect a problem please STOP driving and contact us IMMEDIATELY! If it sounds funny, feels funny, or smells funny or you hear an engine related noise please STOP driving and call us IMMEDIATELY!

FAILURE TO NOTIFY US OF A PROBLEM THAT PERPETUATES ENGINE FAILURE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!

It is much easier and cheaper to fix a little problem than a big one!

We love to hear when everything is going well so please, let us know!
